The City is considering the redevelopment of the Strandfontein beach resort to establish a financially sustainable recreation precinct, including development opportunities that would subsidize the high quality beach amenity. The study was built around a quickfire participation process that drew in local actors, municipal officials and environmental experts. The proposition is built on protecting the broader highly sensitive ecologies and managing sea level rise through infrastructural development. The preferred development scenario included a mixed income and mixed-use development that restructured the public realm in relation to a sponge landscape that mitigate the impact of sea level rise.
